Wow, 2016 is gone! What a sweet year ’16 has been. As we come into the new year, I’ve been going through photos. I found several that haven’t made an appearance on here yet but desperately need to. 🙂 So, without further ado, here is a photo update of what’s been going on in my life lately.
“Start walking with your head held high…the future is bright, heaven’s gates are open wide. Every trouble that you ever walk through, peace, My child, I am fighting for you.” -Tenth Avenue North, “Fighting For You” (youtube here). I received this album for Christmas and I LOVE IT. It’s filled with truth and freedom. I lettered this single word with a few people in mind who are “warriors”, fighters for the truth in a warped world. They are rare, and I can only hope and pray that I may become one of them.
His eyes, though. Somewhere deep within this simple look of a child, I find myself and something deeper – love.
Because faded-out jeans and my camera beside me are a great combo, this photo had to happen. I adore the way my 50mm captures the full essence of of a lazy winter afternoon.
“Even the winter won’t last forever…we’ll see the morning and feel the sun…we’ll wake up in April, ready and able, holding the seeds and the soil of our love.” -Audrey Assad, “Even The Winter”. One frosty morning, I ventured out and the results were breathtaking. There isn’t anything quite like a good winter morning. The cold air did me good and I love this photo: frost and sunlight intertwined.
Okay, so I didn’t take this picture. ;P But I did “take” it from starwars.com, for the sake of remembering it. Dad took us to see it a couple of weekends ago, and it was good, but I was a little disappointed in it. It had a hopelessly sweet, romantic ending, which made Sar and I sigh deeply when we were watching it in theaters, but other than that, I found it a little ehhh. Anyone else pumped for Episode VIII? I made the mistake of looking up the preview for it and now I absolutely cannot wait to see it. 😉 Just twelve more months lol.
Red velvet cupcakes for the win! I’m getting slowly but surely better at my food photography skills. The Christmas lights make this photo, and as yummy as it looks, it tasted even better. 🙂
One of my favorite Christmas gifts I received this year was this cute little succulent. I’ve wanted one for a while for the sake of styled photos and whatnot, but this one came from a dear friend with a great reminder attached to it. Succulents grow towards the light. I need the Light of the World, Jesus, in my life every. day. all. the. time. in order to experience any growth. I love seeing the green happiness of this beautiful little thing every day. Its joyful appearance is always there, despite the cloudy days and freezing temperatures.
We moved our keyboard to a spot right in front of one of the picture windows in our dining room. I’ve been loving the natural light and the long winter afternoons give me opportunities to play more often.
I laugh when I see this photo…at first glance, it might seem like a successful picture, but take a closer look. Elijah is bawling on Sam’s shoulder, my hair is sticking out very awkwardly, Adon is holding Kenan’s throat in an attempt to hug him (but it really looks like he’s strangling his brother!), and Caleb’s grin is cheesy as can be. Not to mention the fact that Julia is asleep, so we can’t see her face. Getting fourteen people to cooperate for a family photo is a challenge, let me tell you what! Still, I will treasure this photo because this is what it’s really about! This imperfection, but the love that holds us together despite it. We will never be a picture-perfect family, and I’m okay with that. All the more reason for us to join closer.
Last, but not least, my selfie with the Christmas tree. I hope your holidays were filled with joy and peace! Thanks for being here. Enjoy these winter days – they hold more joy than you might think.
